Fractures & Trauma
A bone fracture is a medical condition in which a bone is
cracked or broken. It is a break in the continuity of the bone.
While many fractures are the result of high force impact or
stress, bone fracture can also occur as a result of certain
medical conditions that weaken the bones, such as osteoporosis.
Trauma to the musculoskeletal system is one of the most common reasons to either be admitted to hospital or seek medical help. Injuries can involve both boney and soft tissue. The management of both often involves multiple medical practitioners from several disciplines.
David has gained valuable experience through the Australian Orthopaedic training programme, his time as full time trauma surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and has gained extra training in the management of longer term trauma related problems such as malunion, limb length difference and chronic infection. This includes the most up to date use of taylor spatial frames, ilizarov frames and the latest use of locking plate technology including the new dynamic locking screw technology.
